I am having troubles getting my Win 98 SE to interface through my router to the Westell 6100 DSL modem.

When the westell 6100 DSL(centurytel ISP) is conected to the linksys (NR041) Cable/DSL 4-port router by cable my WIN 98SE computer can not finish the connection to the DSL modem
The lights on the dsl modem power on. Ethernet on, DSL on , Internet off
The Lights on the router show double light for computer, Power on, Internet off.

I am initial connecting on computer through the router them I will connect a second computer. I have two ISP in house untill if get the DSL up through the router.

Both my home computers are WIN 98SE

I can connect the DSL modem in one of my PC and establish a Internet connection and when I change the DSL setting to "Bridge" and reconnect the
router and enter the set up to configure to PPPoE and enter my name and password. I also enter centurytel.net as the domain name. save all settings and power down all items dsl, router and computer.

I still can not get connected.

I run winipcfg and have released all and renewed all after I have accessed the dsl and or router independaly.

I am at a loss on how to configure to router properly.

After merging dat between 4 different sources. I got my problem fixrd and thought I would share the fix.
Setting up Westell Model 6100 DSL Router with a Linksys Cable/DSL 4-Port Router (NR041) using a Win 98SE computer.

If you connected your DSL 6100 between your phone line and your computer and established a internet connection that good you know the Dsl works and have accessed the DSL router using //192.168.1 .1 (http://192.168.1 .1)

There are three major steps to getting the DSL Router reconfigured to being a “BRIDGE” for you Linksys router.

Setup the DSL Router to be a Bridge.
1. Connect the DSL Router to your PC. And Power on your DSL Router and PC.
2. Press the reset button on the DSL Router for about 10 sec or until the power light changes back to green.
3. Access the set up function of your DSL router through your web browser by typing http://192.168.1.1 (http://192.168.1.1/) into the brouser’s Address field the press ENTER.
4. The DSL router main window should appear and a User Name Pop Up window should open. DO NOT Enter your ISP Account Name and Password here. ( You do that on the Linksys router.)
5. Move your mouse over the word Connection to make a drop down list appear. SELECT “Private LAN Option” When the next pop up window appears deselect the “Private LAN DHCP server Box” The window will reconfigure itself the click on the “SAVE” button.
6. Move your mouse of the word Connection and select VC Configuration from the drop down options. In the new window you change the PROTOCAL option to “Bridge” The window will reset, then click on “SET VC” after the DSL Router reset itself it will take a few minutes close the DSL router set up windows and turn off your computer and depower you DSL Router the reconnect you DSL router to your Linksys router and PC.
7. Power up your DSL Router, then Linksys Router, after the router is stabilized after powering up Press the RESET on the back until the red Diag led comes on and then goes off. Your router will be reset to factory settings. NOTE TO ADVANCE LINKSYS ROUTER USERS: If you know how to reset the factory default setting from within the router windows you may do that.
Start your PC.

Setup the Linksys NR041 to WAN Connection type PPPoE

1. Access the set up function of your NR041 router through your web browser by typing http://192.168.1.1 into the brouser’s Address field the press ENTER. The window that open should be the Setup for the NR041.
2. Click on PASSWORD and change the default password admin to your own password. The router should reset its self and require you to reenter the new password. Go Back to The SETUP window.
3. In the Setup window under DOMAIN NAME enter “centurytel.net” (My ISP Provider)
4. WAN Connection Type select: PPPoE Two new options will appear. Your user name and password block
5. USER Name Enter you ISP Provided ID in email address format. “OfficialAccountID@centurytel.net (“OfficialAccountID@centurytel.net)” This was the hardest information to find that your ID had to be entered in email address format.
6. PASSWORD Enter your ISP Provided password here.
7. Select the connection option you want, your option.
8. SELECT the Status tab across the top Look at the Login section. The PPPoE status is displayed. If status is off click on the CONNECT button. It may take moment to get the connection status to change to ON. If the connection doesn’t change double check all setting to verify data that was entered/selected. Once the PPPoe Status id ON the close the Router setup and return to your normal browser.
9. Power down everything and restart in this order.
DSL Router
Linksys NR041
Your PC
Final Setup is on your PC for WIN 98.

1. Open your web browser to verify your new connection. If your connection works your done. If your connection doesn’t work do the following.

2. Go to START , RUN enter WINIPCFG
3. IN the Pop-up window select MORE INFO then change the “Ethernet Adapter Information” block to match the NIC Card you are using.
4. Since your connect could not be established click on the “Release All” button the Bottom section the data in most of the fields will change or be deleted, then click on the “Renew All button. The data in the field will be renewed to reflect the new connection. Once that done close the popup and reboot your PC.
5. Open your web browser to verify your new connection. IT should work.

It took me 6 days of trial and error in order to all this info.:thrilled:
