This has to be a hardware problem?
When using command prompt to ipconfig I get the message that the media is disconnected what does this mean all I know is that it must be keeping me from logging on to the internet can someone point me in the right direction to fix this problem.

okay here is what I got I have a wireless router that I was using for another pc in a different room this same router has 4 eithernet ports or jack I have the pc in question hard wired to the router by way of a cate 5 cable which is working fine the same cabe can be pluged in to my laptop and I have a good connection to the internet so that rules out the cable so it has to be something with the eithernet on the pc.

Does your PC have the Ethernet card's drivers installed? Is the NIC connection visible in Control Panel->Network Connections?
