screen saver and shutdown problems

I have installed Picasa screensaver. Essentially this takes the pictures in "My photos" and makes a changing collage of them which cycles every few minutes.

I have set it to 3 minutes. However it does not come on.

In addition, when I shut down the machine it does not shut down but goes into a sort of suspend mode. When I start up the machine by hitting any key on the keyboard it says that Windows did not shut down normally and gives options. I hit start Windows normally and it starts up fine...

Any ideas what is up...?

Since the screensaver isn't working, that's the first place to start. Choose another screensaver and see if it will then shut down normally.

THis does not work. I have changed the screensaver to one of the standard default ones provided by Vista (Leonardo) and there is no change.
