My system is an ECS model K7YMM Type X86-based pc with an AMD Athlon (tm)XP 1800+ processor. 512MB ram and a sony ddu-1611 dvd-rom.

I have just within the hour upgraded from windows me to xp home edition and the dvd player seems to be the casualty.

Since the upgrade I have been trying everything to make sure that they work - unfortunately I seen unable to plat dvd´s. When I try to play a dvd (using either Win dvd or power dvd, I get the following message:
" create overlay failed. Please lower your screen resolution or colour depth and try again". I have always used 1028x768 on my 566LM monitor, but I altered the resolution and the response was the same.
My video card is an S3 Graphics ProSavage DDR.
Can anyone advise me on how to solve this problem. I was able to play dvd´s without a problem up to the moment I started to install the xp upgrade. Thanks. Best regards.

You may have incurred damage to DirectX installation during the upgrade to WINXP. Try d/loading and installing DirectX 9 (http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a19bed22-0b25-4e5d-a584-6389d8a3dad0&displaylang=en), creating a Restore Point first (DirectX 9 cannot be uninstalled).

You might want to check for updates for your video drivers as well.

Downloading dx9 did not solve the problem, but updating the video driver did. Many thanks. Best regards.
