Desktop. Wired Connection.
Motherboard is ASUS P5N-E SLI, with integrated network card. nvidia nforce network controller. I have had good stable internet connection in the past 2 months.

I have confirmed that this is NOT a problem with modem, router, or CAT5E cable.

I have always been on dynamic IP. Have not made any changes to computer, especially driver.

Original sympton: Limited or no connectivity.

Things I have tried. In chronological order.

1. Uninstall network Card. Reinstall it. No success.
2. Disable DHCP Client. Failed to disable it. Error msg: Cannot stop it in time.
3. Disable DNS client. Enabled it. No success.
4. Compared ipconfig /all with my laptop on the same network. My laptop has values for default gateway, DHCP server, and DNS servers. My desktop has no value for default gateway. Does not display DHCP server or DNS servers.
5. Repair using windows XP home SP2 procedure. Fails to renew Renewing IP.
6. Tried disabling and enabling LAN. Failed to disable. Does not let me.

7. Reformatted hard drive and reinstalled windows, in order to get rid of possible viruses.
8. Installed all drivers.
9. Attempted to connect to internet. Failed. Gets stuck at Renewing IP address.
10. Rechecked device manager. No conflicts. Network card driver properties: Driver NOT installed.
11. Install Network card driver. The installation program detects an old version (but the device manager says there is no driver). It says it must reboot in order to install the new driver and remove the old driver. I click on Yes to reboot. It does NOT reboot. Installation program gets stuck.
12. Finally was able to disable LAN. Upon enabling it, it says 'connection failed' immediately. It does not even go through the acquaring IP address, acquiring network address procedure.

Now..i'm desperate. Someone help.
