Is your new laptop wireless ready? Also is the router already installed on another machine?

Ok, if the Router is already installed on your Desktop, it doesnt need to be installed on your laptop.

Some laptops are wireless ready, in other words they come with a wireless network card built in. If this is not the case, a wireless network adaptor is needed before a wireless connection can be made.

Networking is not really an area I have much experience in junlee so I am transferring your topic to our Networking Forum for more help. In the meantime, please post the make and model of your laptop.

Have you enabled the wireless feature on your laptop? There is often a physical button to turn wireless on and off.

Does the front of your laptop look like the attached picture? If so look at the two button labeled 5 in the picture, one of them should have an icon that looks a little like a satellite dish (a small dot and a bigger circle with a line). This button controls the wireless card for the laptop.

Does your wireless network adapter show up in the devices manager? Does it have a '?' or '!' on it?

What are you using to configure the wireless, XP zero config tool or some other tool?
