Start menu keeps coming up randomly when typing

Whenever I am typing the start menu just randomly comes up. Im not hitting the windows key and there doesnt seem to be any specific keys that cause this. Its not a mouse issue either. Its really frustrating to be typing a paper and then you see you are typing in the start menu search feature all of the sudden. Why is this happening? Any help is appreciated.
Im running Vista Home Premium.

Hi Brundirks. Can you boot into Safe Mode, type something and see if it happens there please (restart your computer and tap F8 continuously as it restarts).

Ok, I restarted it in safe and typed for a while and there were no instances of it happening. What does this mean?

That means that it's very likely that one of your startups is causing the problem. Try clean boot troubleshooting to see if you can isolate the problem. See here (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/) for more information.
