I was given a laptop with windows 2000 professional. It has a password which I do not know. They did not know the password either. I can't get passed the password screen, How do I get rid of the password? Will re-installing windows 2000 pro get rid of it? If I was to upgrade to windows XP, would doing that fix the password issue? The password is also on the BIOS, would it fix the password? what do I have to do? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ok one thing is take out the battery on the motherbord and press the power butten a couple of times while it is out and umpluged of course this might get rid of the BIOs password problem. Then you can reformat to windows xp and that will fix the password problem.

Laptop motherboard batteries are sometimes hard to get to, because you have to disassemble them to find it. Installing xp will wipe the windows password but will not wipe the one in the BIOS.

Now, some laptops you need to contact the laptop manufacturer to get rid of the BIOS password. Other than that, we don't help with these issues because of the security issues associated with them.

Yeah I forgot to take into consideration that it was a laptop. Laptops can be tricky to take apart.

You do realize the battery we're talking about isn't the one for power on the laptop, right? If you can't get to that battery, also called the cmos battery, removing the main battery that is used to power the laptop won't help. Neither will just installing xp.
