:) I have set up a home Network with my 2 Desktop Computers. Both running Windows XP Home. Desktop 1 is hardwired from the isp modem through to the d-link Wireless Router (and works fine). Desktop 2 has a Broadcom Wireless Card installed (Drivers installed by "Found New Hardware") and I have run the networking setup (several times now) and have set up the network.....But, although the little computer in the bottom right corner of my screen tells me that I am connected and have "Excellent" signal strength, I cannot get onto the net .
If i go into Properties the connection has numbers beside a Physical address, IP Address and Subnet Mask but no Default Gateway, DNS Server or WINS Server. I have no idea what these are or how I get numbers beside them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Yet again.:dizzy::D

I have "enabled" most of everything in Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom Level >Medium High and Set Privacy to Accept all Cookies, still to no avail. When I open up the Connection Status I see that the computer says that it is connected with Speed of 54Mbps and the Activity is 142 Packets in Sent but 0 in Received. When I open Support it is still as in the previous post. This is driving me nuts and any help would be appreciated.

Can you post back the outout of ipconfig/all desktop 2?
Also, have you enabled wirelss security @ the router (WEP/WPA)?
Do you have 'obtain IP address automatically' set on desktop 2?

ok I can run ipconfig / all and a little black screen appears for a millisecond. Then where do I go to retrieve the output data? I have enabled wireless security @the router as I also have a laptop that works fine off the router. Where do I go to set 'obtain IP address automatically' ? Thanks

To run ipconfig from the 'run ' option in the start menu. cmd /k ipconfig/all
To check you network settings go to your network connections and open the properties for the connection. Select 'Internet protocol(TCP/IP)' and open its properties. The 'obtain IP automatically' is there.

But when I put the dot in it to obtain automatically now the litle icon down in the corner say "Limited or No Conectivity" . Should I go back in and untick it again. Thanks

How is your laptop setup? If it has obtain address automatically, then set your desktop the same. If it has a fixed IP address, post back its IP address.
Being able to connect to the unsecured network shows that your wireless card is working. What happens when you try to connect to your secured network? It should ask for the key.

My laptop is running Vista Basic and i have no idea where to find the Properties of the Network Connection. Under Network and Sharing Center it only has my laptop -router-internet. In HP Wireless Assistant it only come up with "installed Wireless Devices" > Wireless Lan > Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN .
I set the Desktop back to Optain IP Address Automatically and yes it does ask for a key. When I put the key in it says "aquiring network address" for about 20-30 seconds then it connects but says "limited or no connectivity". The signal strength is "excellent".

If i click on disconnect from the network ( and disconnect) when I click on connect it asks for the key again but in the box where i am to put the network key is 8 black dots already there and not the 26 that my network key would make. when I click on the box with the key in it to enter my key the 8 dots disappear.

The black dots are most likely just fillers and won't match the number of characters in the key.
Are you sure your key is correct? Can you try entering it again at the router and try connecting after that.
Also, with 'Obtain address automatically' set can you run ipconfig/all again?
