Improving game performance...

I bought Unreal Tournament 3 and had to upgrade my graphics card to run it but it still seems to run a tad bit choppy. It runs like this even when I turn all the settings to the lowest, which I shouldn't have to do anyway since the new graphics card is more than adequate to run this game. What else can I do to get this game to run smoother?

Give me your system specs

If you upgrade the Graphics card to something really high end, but you leave the RAM and CPU untouched and they are low end, games would still run quite slow as not every aspect of the game only depends on the graphics card

I suggest getting at least 2GB of RAM in total for gaming, even if you are running XP UT3 demo takes + XP takes up nearly my full 1GB of RAM

a Dual core CPU is also favourable if you can upgrade to it/afford it

On the AMD Side
If he has Socket 939 it would be quite expensive (Dual core CPUs rare and expensive S939 4800+ is about the same price as an AM2 6000+
If he has Socket 754 it would also be expensive (motherboard replacement needed, ram replacement needed)

if he has a recent System with an AM2 socket dual core cpus would be cheap

On the Intel side
If he has S478, you need a motherboard and RAM replacement
If he has S775 then I must check compatibility, a new motherboard might be required

Give us your computer specs, so we know what you can do with it

what did you upgrade your graphics card to? and what did you upgrade it from

we need comp specs otherwise we cant give precise advice on where to go next, we can only give more generic answers, that would probably wont help much

I have a pentium 4, 3.x Ghz, 1gb of ram, upgraded card from a radeon 9600 to a radeon hd2600xt. I was planning on upgrading the ram to 2gb to see if that would do it but I seem to remeber that my motherboard could only take 1gb total. I have two sticks of 3200 512mb in there now so I don't see why I couldn't just put in two sticks of 3200 1gb but don't know for sure.

You can find the motherboard model if this is not a branded computer other by using the small program listed in my signature called Everest Free Edition. Download it, install it, and open it. Click on the word Motherboard in the left window, then in the right window read what it says and post that info here.

The Crucial site says I can have a max of 2GB. That's a nice tool, thanks for the link.

Actually, it is not just a tool. Crucial is a brand of memory and one of the best you can buy. They guarantee theirs will work or your money back.
