cable modem, router, switch 4 computers... the real deal
Howdy, I'm not quite sure what the correct name for the box either a router or modem, but it came with out dsl and it has a phone jack & ethernet jack. I'll just refer to it as a box for now. What I'm trying to do it take the box and connect it to my switch and then that switch has 4 computers and 2 printers connected to it. So..
1: I have a static IP with a gateway and subnet that the dsl company gave me if that makes it easier 2: What kind of cable will I need if the box is a router? Crossover? 3: If your wondering why I don't just mess around with it, it is because it hasn't been activated yet and will be at 7p.m. Thanks!

Ethernet Patch cable is what i use for the same setup, between my router and ethernet switch. That's what you need, you should have got one with your router, or let's call it a 'box'

If the "box" has an ethernet port as well as a phone jack then its probably a modem. In which case you will need to purchase a router. The router will hand out IP addresses to all of your computers. A modem will not do this.
