is there any way to connect two computers together without a router ?
can you do it with a simple USB cable in any way at all ?
dont care if the second box gets internet access or not
i have a 4 port usb card in my primary box
flat style
i know nothing about networkign other than with LAN/Ethernet/CAT 5 cards/routers
never tried any other way in the past,
so i have no idea here
every time i get a CAT 5 router to connect boxes together and to the net it only lasts a year or so, and dies
im tired of that
thanks for anything

Hi, yesterday I bought a USB2.0 Link cable for connecting two PC's together. It's about 6 foot long with a little box in the middle. I connected my PC to my laptop a little while ago and EasyCopy-Net comes up on both screens with all files showing. I haven't figured out how to transfer files yet. It cost £6 from a computer fair. if you just want to connect two computers just like that...it would be great to get a cross over cable and then you gotta setup some sort of ip address on both side and you should be able to see two computers in the network side and should be able to access each other no problems
if you are thinking of having the second computer to have internet access then your first computer should have two NIC cards and then you gottta share the internet connection so the second computer can access to it.
Having a router in the whole equations would add security to your network and allow you to expand your network in the future.
hope the above information helps in some ways

Hi, I found it really simple to use this. With XP you just plug the EasyCopy-Net into both machines and double click the icon on both machines. You get local and remote machines drives and documents up on each screen and just copy and paste from one to the other. Easy. I've been messing about using USB flash drives but sometimes files are too big,
