I'm new to the PC and know nothing. I just bought a dell xps 210 with vista. This box keeps popping up asking me if I want to continue with a certain action. A action I started. I'm tired of it and need info. on how to stop that box from popping up. Thanks, anfurnee.

Hi Anfurnee. This is a Vista security feature called User Access Control. Have a look here (http://www.jimmah.com/vista/vistanew.aspx) and here (http://www.jimmah.com/vista/security/uac.aspx).
If after reading about it, you still wish to disable it, go to Start Search and type msconfig. Msconfig.exe will appear at the top of the menu. Open it and click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAC" Select it and click on the Launch button. A CMD window will open. After the command has run, you can close the window. Click ok and close msconfig. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.
(Note that you can re-enable UAC by running msconfig again, selecting the "Enable UAC" line and then clicking on the Launch button > OK and reboot.)

I was sick of it too, and disabled it in Users (just click your username and disable it). There will be a box saying that it's off everytime you start up, but it's not as anoying as the confirmation each time ;))

Thank you. Do you I should stop the box from popping up all the time? Again, thanks.

Yes, I think it's safe enough. It was pretty annoying for me, as everytime I wanted to start a program or game I installed myself it kept asking me if I really wanted to run it... REALLY annoying ;) I see it, as an XP conversion, wich was safe too ;)

the whole purpose of the UAC is for people to be out there watching if anything from the net tries to install anything on your system without you knowing....this is helping for people who may not know alot of computers....
Alot of my clients find it annoying but i demo a presentation on exactly what could have installed if i wasn't surfing properly and randomly clicking on links or going to spaming website and it clogged the whole system.
After seening that demo they realized that the actions i took to display that, most of them were doing that...so they kept that UAC on for them just in case....
If you are surfing properly to places that you know that won't try to install useless stuff or you actually do weekly scan and what not then go right ahead and turn it off...
its really a personal choice but at the same time it can save time from all those hassle out there...

Freakinprince & AnnMarie - thanks for the comments & links; AnnMarie has helped me in the past w/ this UAC issue on a new laptop w/ VISTA - I've decided to keep it enabled since I use it mainly for web surfing; certainly, an understanding of the issues involved make for a wiser decision, regardless of the choice -
