I have windows ME but after running the recovery disc(not formatting the hard drive) and trying to upgrade to ie6 SP 1 I get the message not all components could be downloaded and I still have outlook express 5.5 When I go to windows upgrade to see my upgrade history it says ie6 SP1 has been installed and it gives the date I installed it(one or 2 days ago). In fact on the upgrade history list it lists it being installed a few times. One time for every time I tried after being told 'not all components could be installed please try again'. When I go back to windows upgrade to see what critical updates are available it still tells me the ie6 SP1 still is available for upgrade so I figure it still hasn't been installed (especially since I still have outlook 5.5). How can I check to see for sure if I have the ie6 SP 1 and if I do shouldn't I have another version of outlook other than 5.5?

When I run outlook I keep getting an error message window which I can't get rid of but outlook is working all right. I can send myself a message. My service provider helped me get it working but the error message saying ---Unable to logon to the server using Secure Password Authentication. Account: 'promail.ptd.net (1)', Server: 'promail.ptd.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR authorization first', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18--- still appears every time I hit send/receive and every time I start outlook. I think its because somehow I am not able to install the ie6 SP 1 properly. Can you understand my problem? Thank you.

I just noticed that in my add\remove sectuon of system in the control panel ie6 SP1 is not listed even when the update history says installation was successful as I mentioned above. What is listed is this---internet explorer Q891781. Should I uninstall this than try installing the ie6 SP1 again. I should get a version of outlook express other than version 5 ,shouldn't I, if ie6 SP was installed successfully.

I'm going to study some of these suggestions at this sight. Others have had this problem and some people have given answers and at least one solution worked for someone.--
