The issue: When trying to access web with internet explorer 6.0, I get "this page could not be displayed." My email is working fine. I called my ISP and they would not offer any help with Windows ME and told me to go buy a new computer. That isn't financially possible so here is what I have tried...
1. I cleaned the cache and history from the "internet options" in internet explorer. I also went into DOS mode and used these commands:
smartdrv
deltree tempor~1
deltree history
deltree cookies
That all seemed to do what it was supposed to.
2. I ran a virus scan with NIS and got no viruses. I also used norton utilities to run NDD, defrag, clean sweep, and all the other goodies that are supposed to work.
3. I tried to download IE 6.0 (from microsoft.com) from another computer and re-install it. I got a message that said I had to download additional components, which of course I can't do because I can't get on the internet from that computer.
4. I tried to use hijackthis to get a log and it would not work and I got a blank log. I think it was version 2.0
5. I also used system restore to go back 2 weeks (the problem has been less than a week). That didn't work either.
I restarted my computer in between all of these steps and nothing. All other things on the computer seem to be working fine. Like I said, my email works so I know my service is OK. Any help would be appreciated. I am not good with computers and this is all I know how to do. Thank you.
