Hi pathtn - unfortunately, scanning a document into Word does does not necessarily mean that the end result will be a Word document with text that can be edited. No matter what scanning software you are using, you will be given a choice of scanning modes e.g Text, Black and White Drawing, Colour Photograph etc. You have probably scanned the document as a Photograph which Word cannot edit. Refer to your Scanner Help Files.

Have a look at the software which came with your scanner. If you need to reproduce the document in exactly the same format as typed and also be able to edit it, you will need to use OCR (http://support.scansoft.com/ocr/) software. It's possible that a lite version of OCR software was bundled with your scanner software. Caere OmniPage Pro for example.
