I would like to take a song that I have on my hard drive and do some editing to it and burn it to a CD. I would like to take the current version of the song and simply record it at a slower version. My kids will be using it for a variety show and need to SLOW down. I have the basic windows media player and Roxio creater v9. Is there another program I can download and use for editing???

See if Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) will do what you want. It's free.

Audicity won't let me edit anything copywrited. Any other options? I DO own this CD so I am not infringing (I think).

Since it's copyrighted your only legal option is to get in touch with the record company and see if you can get permission to edit it and use it.
Note that when you purchase a CD with copyrighted material on it, the only thing you actually own is the plastic disk and a license (permission) to use what's on the disk. The terms of that license are printed somewhere on the case insert, sometimes on the disk's label. Music CDs always have that "cannot copy, edit, distribute without permission" blurb (I paraphrase).
