Having Computer Issues

Just recently I have noticed that on counter strike 1.6 my fps (frames per sec) havent been a consistent 100.0 like it normally is, I have tryed various solutions that have come out blank, the problem is that my fps now drops from 100.0 to around 80 or even lower at certain times during the game.

This I find very strange because my graphics card is not bad, I will post the specs below and then post the specs of my perivous one for comparison:

NVIDA 7800 GT GeForce on my current computer

ATI Radeon 4600 on my older computer which is rather inferior by comparison

So if anyone has any answers please post them below, if you need more info then just ask and I will provide what I can.

Fps

You've probably not been answered for lack of sympathy, really. Regardless of the uninformed gamer's battlecry: "FPS is LIFE!!11!1!1one!1", 60FPS is excellent, and 80FPS is crazy good.

That being said, in game video options like Texture Quality can be lowered to net higher FPS.

NVidia drivers usually have a slider bar, something like:
(Max Quality - High Quality - Average - High Performance - Max Performance)
You trade off the cool visuals in your game for more FPS, basically.

Most people's problem is not their FPS. It's often their input device (mouse DPI for instance), or their monitor refresh (If you're using CRT, is your refresh set to 100 or more? If not, it's overkill to have 100+FPS. If you're using LCD, did you spring extra $$$ for the 2ms or 5ms response time monitor? That can affect your headshot skills more than your sub-100 FPS.

How's your ping time/network lag? That's as important as FPS in online games, especially with FPS as good as yours. Double digit ping is great, more than 150 or so, and I'd find a new server.

A Dual Quad Core CPU, Quad SLI, A few solid state HDs in performance raid array with 8gb of DDR3 ram might net you 500FPS in a game like that, if your heart is set on FPS and you've got money to burn, but 80-100FPS is very good for people based in reality.
