What exactly is Rundll32 and why can't I "end task" on it when I see it listed as running when I hit CTL/ALT/DEL?

Hi jessek - rundll32.exe is used by many programs to execute functions located in a DLL file. In your case, it helps to load your selected power scheme but it doesnt usually appear in Task Manager. I am not sure why you cannot end task it.

There are also viruses that masquerade as this file. Run a search for rundll32.exe. There should be only one file by this name on your computer and it should be in C:\Windows. When you rightclick on it and choose Properties >Version, it will be clearly identified as a Microsoft file.

Found only one and it was clearly identified.

It comes up a lot in the list when I control/alt/delete, in fact I have it listed there twice as I type.

I use a program called Stuffit which causes a lot of problems if I don't go in and "end task" it right after use, so I noticed these rundll32's and wondered what they were.

I guess they're not causing any harm.

Thanks for the information.
