View Full Version : Why is Internet Explorer 7 running so slow?

I am currently running a homebuilt pc using an Abit motherboard with an Intel Celeron 3.0ghz processor. I currently have 2gb of 400mhz ram installed and I am using a Geforce 7300GS video card with 256mg of ram. All of my games run perfectly.

The problem is that IE 7 runs like I have dialup, when I am using a 6mbs cable connection. :curse: At one time webpages would load like I was changing channels on my tv.

I have cleaned out everything in the history. I simply pressed the delete all button and let it run. I ran Spybot and cleaned up all the spyware that it detected. I have run Norton Speedisk and have had no success. I am at a loss for what I should try next.

This is maddening and I would really appreciate any and all help.

Dave

You might try posting a thread in our Cyber Safety forum, they'll have you run some tests and see if there is something hidden that could be causing this issue.

For troubleshooting purposes, try another browser...like Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/). If it's just as slow, the problem isn't with Internet Explorer but either with malware, the hardware you used to connect, the software affecting that hardware or with changes your internet service provider may have made. The trick is to isolate the problem to figure out which one, or ones, it is.

Also just to add with that kind of connection you shouldn't be having problems with speed.

Have you done any speed tests lately?

Have you contacted your ISP to see if there are any issues in your area also to check your connection?

Have you tried rebooting your modem? Shut down you computer and try unplugging and plugging your modem back in and restart you system.

It is a problem that as Miz pointed out has to be solved by process of elimination, but you have to be sure you virus/spyware free before anything else, it could save a lot of time troubleshooting this issue. ;)
