Hi. I have a Canon PowerShot SD 870 IS camera and I've made a few short videos. I went to upload them on my computer and it works out fine. It's just that when I go to play them the files are kind of big I think and every single media player I've tried has issues playing the files. It skips pretty much every couple of seconds. I'm thinking the files are too big. For like a 30 second clip, the file size is around 60 MB. I'm assuming this is the problem.

So I go and save the file in Windows Movie Maker and turn it into a .WMP file. And it plays a little better. The pace of the video just barely seems a little too fast. Other than that, everything works though. However, I still want it as an AVI, or a MPEG would be nice. But I'm not sure how to compress the file while keeping everything the same. I used a program called SUPER, but it seems quite complicated. I copied the specs of the original video as best I could when I used SUPER, but the new version still didn't come out right. And doing it through Windows Movie Maker is kind of an annoying process. So I'm kind of lost. Is there an easier way to compress my video files from my camera? All I want it to do is play better at a smaller size. I don't care if I lose a little bit of quality, it just has to look decent for the most part. I do need it to play without skipping though. Anyone have any suggestions?

Well the file already comes as an AVI from the camera. It's just that's it's too big. And that AVI.NET doesn't convert AVI to AVI to make it smaller...at least that's not what it says in the description. Thanks for trying to help though.

Anyone else have any suggestions? Could it have to do with the RAM on my computer? I only have about 256...

My JVC cam pumps out videos (.MOD) which are a type of mpeg at approx 1sec = 1MB.

The RAM you have could have something to do with it as my previous machine with 1Gig in it struggled in the video editing department as well. On that machine I would only edit 5 min clips at a time as any more would freak it out.

This machine has plenty of RAM and also using ULEAD Video Studio 11 Plus which is great and I have very few problems.

What type of video card do you have? That may also cause some problems?
