Disappearing desktop icons

For the last week or so..my desktop icons are doing stupid things! They either disappear altogether...or I have a "ghost" image:confused:

The text remains on screen...and I've tried refresh desktop.
I can only restore normallity by rebooting...

Ohhh and another annoying thing which could be related...
sometimes when I have opened a small window like "my docs" or similar...and then close it...the area that the window covered on the icons diappears...so I end up with half icons...

Hi dammit - try updating your graphics card drivers and see if that helps (might also fix the disappearing text on your Start button problem).

I've located an updated driver from intel and downloaded it...but it's a pdf file??????

How do I open and install it?????

Just found out it's an adobe file.....but still don't know how to install...

That would not be the driver files, more likely the release notes.
What video card do you have?

In widows video Intel(r)82810 graphics controller....i87xdw9xdrv driver

and then in PCI/AGP video....intel i752 adapter..and inteli752 adaptor

Hi dammit,
You could give the IconCache Fix (http://aumha.org/win4/regfiles.htm) a try to see if it resolves the problem. Fifth item under the File column.
