Hi prim07. To make sure you are not dealing with a corrupted file, try running the System File Checker. Go to Start and type "cmd" without the quotes, then right-click cmd.exe and choose "Run as Administrator". Once at the Command Prompt, type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. You may need to insert your Vista disk so keep it handy.

I cant choose, "run as administrator"

One I type in cmd in run, it just takes me to command prompt, and I was right clicking all over, nothing with run as administrator.

Then I typed in sfc/scannow and it says I need to be running as an administrator, so is there something I'm doing wrong? Or is something not popping up?

Is there anyway to reinstall it? or download another from the micrsoft website?

Oh my bad, I wasn't suppose to type it in run, I see the administrator thing now, I'll try it.

Ok, it looks like I have some corrupted files, and it says it was unable to fix some of them. Here is exactly what it says:

Verification 98% Complete. Windows Restore Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\logs\CBS\CBS.log
For example..
C:\Windows\CBS\CBS.Log

Ok, please open the log and post the details here. You will find the log in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.Log. Just copy and paste todays entries.

Do you have a Vista Installation DVD or a Recovery CD?

When I try to open up the log, it says access denied.

Turn UAC off for now. To do this, go to Start Search and type msconfig. Msconfig.exe will appear at the top of the menu. Open it and click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAC" Select it and click on the Launch button. A CMD window will open. After the command has run, you can close the window. Click ok and close msconfig. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.

Try opening the log now.

(Note that you can re-enable UAC by running msconfig again, selecting the "Enable UAC" line and then clicking on the Launch button > OK and reboot.)
