I have recently got a new PC and I am unable to install Windows VISTA onto it! Looking on google a few people seem to have this issue. I've tried some of the fixes but have had no joy. I've also spoke to the guys I got it from who have advised me to do a few things but still I can't get it up and running. They're willing to come pick it up and replace it but if XP installs fine I can't see to much being wrong with the hardware? I'm thinking maybe BIOS?

I start to install VISTA and it goes through the first 4 steps and restarts the PC then it says "please wait while windows starts for the first time" it then goes to the "completing installtion" screen and then stays there. I can move the mouse around the three dots keep moving and if I click on the 'x' it gives a warning about shutting down at this time. I have left it on this screen several time and for several hours - once over night!

When you choose where you would like to install windows I have tried loading drivers. I have tried taking 3 bits of RAM out leaving one in and trying to install then incase they were faulty. I have disconnected the USB keyboard and mouse during installation. And I have installed Windows XP without an issue!

I could really do with some help on this, the only thing I can think of is updating the BIOS really (which I don't know how to do at this very moment). If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appeciated!

Thanks in advance peeps,

well that's weird ...even thought is a new computer and all....i guess you gotta do some research reagardin to drives for all compoents to be compitable to vista? but you are only talking about installation of the OS itself...so thats a toughie...normally if something like that happens i just stick with the other OS that would work...(i am not a fan of Vista anyhow...hehhe)

i know the above statment doesn't really provide help but yeah hahah sorry

Yeah I would normally do that but I really need to find out what is causing this. Its more in case in a year or so I decide to put Vista on and I can't and can't get it swapped for another one.

If no one has any ideas, looks like I might just have to get the vendor to come pick it up and swap it for another one - ask them if they will install vista on it before giving me a new one to test it and make sure it works!?

have you done the research for all the stuff relating to all drviers to each parts in the computer to be compatiable to vista? (well just going over your spec its seems fine to me)

plus i would go ahead and ask them to install vista (if they don't charge you extra) only if you are still under warranty for this new computer (i am sure you are)

might as well just take the chance of getting it swapped out and bring in a new system.

The disc for the motherboard does say "vista drivers included", when I was installing Vista I used the select driver bit and loaded the SATA vista drivers on but still no joy!

hmmm weird

check out this site...just go thur the list and see the type of mother board, HDD, video card to make sure its compatible

http://www.winmatrix.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10334

i am going to look and see if i can find it....alot of people haven't really post up anything useful as none of them had the same situation

are you getting any error at all? it just hangs during the process? no error message? just wanna double check

One other thing i just found out..is that the BIOS...that could be the problem....maybe if you can provide that info we can look into that?

Thanks for that, I'll check the list and see if all of it is compatible!

I don't get any error message, just hangs on "completing installation" - but I can move the mouse, click on the X and get a warning.

What do you need to know about the BIOS?

Thanks again!

.....as for BIOS...the make, firmware, everything you can .... one guy said the BIOS was the problem..it wasn't compatible ....which shouldn't be a problem if you just recently got it...hmmm

Hey hey!

They actually came and pick the PC up on Wednesday afternoon. Just emailed them asking when they think I'll get it back. I'll let you know what happens with that! :)

Well I got the PC back and it had Vista half installed so I put my disc in and finished it off ..and it worked!

As to what was wrong with it god knows. I emailed them and asked and they said they just went to install it and it worked. So you would think a faulty disc but like I said the disc I was trying was used on 2 other PC's to test that the disc was OK. Only other thing is I was trying to install Ultimate and it has Vista Home Premium on it now.

No where nearly to finding out what was a matter but I guess at least they got it to work!?

Thanks again!
