Linksys wrt43g firmware upgrade (failed)

HI,
I decided I wanted the best and decided to upgrade my firmware on the wrt54g wireless broadband router with 4 port switch.(whichi have done several times before with this router) The problem is I downloaded the new image and attempted to install it but it failed. The error message was simply install failed. The problem is now I can not access the routers http page I just get the error message server timed out.Can anyone tell me how to overcome this and get my router working again,I have tried to simply reset it several times with the reset button on the back but it dont work.Im desperate more desperate than any of my previous posts as im having to use usb to connect to the net
Regards Nige.

Dunno much about that, but I understand firmware installs chip level, right?

How about re-installing the previous firmware? I have no idea if such a thing is even possible.

I myself have never done that, but... hey... it might.

Well I would attempt to reinstall the old the firmware but I cant access the router through the web administration page. With the exception of the wireless light (which I had disable) all the other lights come on as normall, now when I press the reset button at the back of the router by rights the wireless light should come on.but it don't.which tells me there is a problem.

Hmmm, pretty nasty. You obviously can't access the administration page on the router cos the the firmware is fried.

To be honest, I'm pretty sure you are stuck solid here, as normally in this situation you would have to whip the eprom out and replace it.

I'll dig around and see if anything comes up.

Hi,
I thought I would let you all know I have successfuly fixed the problem with my router. This is how I did it.

step 1,
Download new firmware from here http://www-uk.linksys.com/servlet/Sa...=2778386492B03

Just make sure you get the correct version by looking on the bottom of your router for the model number.

step 2,
Download tftp from here ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/tftp.exe

step 3,
Open up the tftp software it asks for the ip address of the router because I was using linksys I entered "192.168.1.1"

step4,
Enter the location of the bin file you downloaded which is your firmware

step 5,
Enter the password for the router the default for linksys is "admin"

step 6,
Click on the upgrade button it takes about 20 seconds.

step 7,
Stop sweating and have fun.

PS You must be able to at least ping your router for this to work I think ill attempt another update tomoz iv had enough for today. Thanks for peoples help once again.
Regards Nige.

Just wanted to point out that this is not possible with all routers. But if you have a linksys you're in luck. ;^)

Very good news all round. Thanks for the link masternige and z1p. I've certainly learned something from your posts.

(Sorry, should've just said "I echo Qualanqui's sentiments" )
