Okay, heres the dealio. I have two computers in the house. Desktop downstairs, Desktop upstairs. The cable modem and hookups are all with the downstairs computer.

When the downstairs computer is connected directly to the modem I get perfect speed, never disconnects, zero problems.

When I have my wireless router hooked up, when it works it works perfectly. But about an hour in I lose the signal and I have to manually unplug the router and modem for about 10 minutes connect it back together and it works again for another hour or so. Never have I went to bed with it working and wake up with it still working. In the seven months I have this setup.

In the last week I was determined to fix it. I have been through three routers. Ranging from a standard wireless G, then next to Wireless G Mimo, and then onto a 129$ wireless N mimo. All have the same problem. Granted the N mimo one was fast as hell when it was working.

So I'm confused, you would think since it works perfectly when the computer is just connected directly to the modem it HAS to be the routers? Could it be my wireless card? How does that make sense?

Any help or discussion would be awesome. thanks guys.

Sounds like interference on the wireless side of the routers. You don't mention the distance between the router and the computer, plus any objects such as floors, walls, furniture etc. effect performance. Surrounding electronics will also cause those symptoms, make sure that the router is away from other electonics, and try changing the default channel to a different one.

Also, What version of windows are you using and what do you have for a wireless card?

Under the properties for your wireless card go to the power management tab and make sure that option to allow windows to turn it off to save power is disabled.

When you set up your router are you cloning your PC's MAC address to the router? Sometimes that makes ISPs happier because it looks like the same equipment is connected.

Madef:
Distance is one floor, the upstairs desktop is almost directly above it one floor up. There aren't really any other electronics. Theres a broadband phone that was provided by the charter aswell, but thats about it, and I've actually disconnected that and had the wireless router going and I had the same problem.
Thanks on the channel tip, will try that now..
