Firewall blockage ? unable to log in anything except for internet

Recently I've been experiencing lots of login problems which I am unable to log into programs like MSN , Joost , MIRC (basically all the program except for internet explorer only) all because of some error saying that my firewall or proxxy stuff have been blocking it or something.
I've disable the firewall by going to run->services.msc ... but to no avail.. the problem persist..
Could anyone help to solve this problem asap ?

what firewall are you talking about? (windows/router)

how are you connected? modem or router? and what type of router is it if you have one?

The default windows firewall for windows .
I am using a Motorola Modem

so you odn't have a router in the equation? hmm

if you are directly connected to the modem i don't see why you should have problems

just for a test, go to start --> control panel --> windows firewall --> and turn off the window's firewall...

try again and see if you can get any software to open up with internet connection
