Hi.
This is a weird one - I've been trying to fix for about 2 weeks, but to no avail..it is time to admit defeat and refer to some people who really know what they are talking about. We have a network with 3 pcs and one laptop on it. The main pc goes to a router (Netgear RP614) The laptop and other 2 pcs go to ( Netgear wireless wg602 access point) which then goes into the router - which then goes into the broadband modem. It has been working fine for about a year - until a couple of weeks ago. All pcs still work fine - the laptop though has become intermittent with it's wireless connection. It will work for a few minutes - then stop - then start again - then stop - etc.. there is no pattern, it is just random - and as you can guess - IT'S DOING MY HEAD IN ! here's my sys info.. microsoft xp pro service pack 2 fujitsu siemens amilo pro v2085 intel pentium m 1.7 ghz , 500 mb ram.. let me know what other info you need - i recently installed norton is 2008 - which has changed nothing on the other pcs - have tried to disable it on laptop but can't - have turned off as many features as possible, but still same dodgy connection.. The little pic in the menu bar is always flashing - and reckons I have a good connection - even when it stops working. my ip on this laptop is 192.168.0.5 default gateway is 192.168.0.1 I can ping the router (DEFAULT GATEWAY) and can ping the access point.. thx |

Hi jason, welcome to CTH
![]() First off, have you had any Microsoft updates to this lappy lately? I'm thinking it may have triggered something on the "Set the wireless connection to power save" facility on the wireless card. Have a look at the properties of the network connection and see if that is ticked. Getting the pings working and the status bar is a little worrying as it would point to the Internet Connection Sharing being a problem, this could point to Norton throwing a wobbly. I've not actually used 2008, so am not familiar with it. If anyone else has any experience, advice would be much appreciated here! |
