My home network (mainly wired, but I also have wireless) was working well until I purchased a new Acer Aspire 3680 notebook running Windows Vista Home Basic, with Norton 360 and Webroot Spy Sweeper. I have a Netcomm NB1300 Ethernet/USB ADSL Modem Router, and a Soho SH-9008A Ethernet Switch box with 6 computers attached.

Whenever my new Aspire 3680 is connected to the ethernet network, the ADSL modem disconnects from the internet several times a day - and I have to turn off the modem, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on to reconnect to the internet. The disconnection can happen at any time, but it seems to be more likely to happen when I reboot the notebook, or if I run the Acer Network Assist program that came with the computer (I no longer use that program, and have set it so that it does not turn on when Vista loads). The disconnection is not affected by having the wireless access on or off (via a D-Link DWL-G700AP Wireless G access point). The problems were the same when I used VCOM System Suite firewall and anti-virus, which I uninstalled before installing Norton 360 (in the hope this would stop the disconnections). I have not connected any other new equipment to the telephone line (and the problem occurs only when the Aspie 3680 is conneceted to the network).

I would be very gateful for your advice about how to fix this problem.

Here are my ipconfig and ping results:

Hi silk24, welcome to CTH

Thanks for taking the time to read the stickies and post the above info.

Please bear with me, I'm going to do a bit of research and see if there is a prob between IPv6 and IP4 on your equipment. Think this may be the root of the disconnects.

Also, you have disabled the network assist prog and are now using standard vista connection? Might be worth removing network assist from the system completely - we had a similar issue at home and by removing the equivalent from my daughters Medion laptop achieved much more stability.

Hi, Snurfen. Thank you so much for looking into my problem.

Yes, I have disabled Acer network assist - so I am using the standard Vista connection.

By "removing nework assistant", do you mean removing the programme "Acer eNet Management"? Thanks again.

I've removed Acer eNet Management. I think it my have helped, but I still get disconnected every 12-24 hours - but only when the Acer Inspire Notebook is turned on. I'd be grateful if you have any more suggestions. Thank you very much for your help so far.
