Not serious just frustrating

Hi

Bit of a weird one this.
I recently bought a copy of Bit defender 2008 internet security, installed it and it works fine, however, the taskbar icon wont show up after a restart unless i lock/unlock the taskbar.

Also im using a nvidia gfx card and that icon wont show up unless i enable it in the control panel. it happens everytime i turn the pc on that i have to do this which is a bit of a nuisance.i have unin & reinstalled both applications a number of times but the same thing happens each time, even though on a couple of occasions it has asked me to confirm a registry change at start up ( in the case of the nvidia icon)

Any ideas on how to solve this? i guess smethign is awry in the registry but i unsure about where to sart.

Gracias amigos

Hi preachy. It sounds as though security software that you have installed might be causing this problem. Spybot's TeaTimer and Ad-Aware's Ad-Watch are both well known for doing this. Do you have either program installed?

On the couple of occasions it asked it happened after installing bit defender. I had to install it a couple of times because the tray icon wasnt showing up when i first installed it and there support team recommended a reinstall as the best option

What program is asking though? Windows doesnt ask you to confirm a registry change after an install.

Sorry, that wasnt very clear of me. It was Bit Defender that asked me to confirm that registry change at start up.

Oh I see. Is your OS XP?

If so, to see if another program loading at startup is causing the problem, try cleanboot troubleshooting (disable all except Bit Defender).

See here for more information.
