Hi im new and dont know a whole lot about computers so i apologize in advance :)

Recently got a netgear wireless router. My sister and i have exactly the same laptops, with the same inbuilt wireless. Her's connects but mine does not. As far as i can tell all the options in the wireless connection settings are exactly the same.

When i "view available wireless networks" the Netgear network is there... so i assume my wireless on my laptop is working else i would not be able to see the network?

Despite this i cant seem to be able to connect at all, its driving me crazy!

When i try to repair the connection it says that there may be a blockage (or something) where i cant connect or that the network will not allow me to connect.

THe network does have WPA but i obviously know the password so that is not the problem.

Thanks alot people, hope you can help.

(please try not to use so much technical lingo please because i probably wont understand :( )

Hi spoon, welcome to CTH
Have you tried it with no WPA on? That would be a good starting point - don't worry you can switch back on soon after you've tested.

Might even be worth resetting the router to factory reset - do this by holding the reset button for about 10 secs - it will tell you how to do it in the user guide.
From there, you can go through the very basic setup until you can connect both lappies to the device, then slowly add features, one at a time, checking both lapies connect at each step.

What model is the router?
