never had any problems with my netgear wireless router. but my new laptop has wirless-n, so i decided to upgrade and the d-link dir-625 is what i chose. put the cd in both my computers to configure the router. but im having alot of problems and could use some help configuring this properly. my connection will sometimes just stop, sometimes kick me out for a min or 2. also i use synergy and that is very choppy (was perfectly smooth before), and also im only getting a 144Mbps connection. isnt it supposed to be closer to 300? any help or tips would be great, thanks.

You shouldn't be putting the cd in both computers. You only need to configure the router once.

well i only did that because it speceifically says to do so in the instructions

Well, maybe its different than the other wireless router's I've set up, but I don't see why that would be necessary. Maybe someone else could offer up some help....

First thing I would do however, is check to see if there is an update to the firmware from the d-link website.

i updated the firmware. was wondering if anyone had any ideas about the speed? its at 130Mbps. shouldnt it be faster?

Well, the 300 Mbps is the max speed, not the guaranteed speed. It may be an issue with compatibility with your laptop's wireless adapter or it may be dialing back the speed due to interference. The latter seems very possible if you are having connection problems.

Finally resolved problem with Synergy and my DIR-625 after searching and searching the web for probs with Synergy. Strangely enough it worked fine with my previous D-Link router. Initially I thought the prob was with firewall settings in the router, so I changed them and most of the time when the router rebooted, Synergy would connect. Finally found a reference somewhere to making additions to the Windows "hosts" file. What is that you ask ... I don't know. But here is what I did:

I edited the file (using notepad) called "hosts" which is found in the WinXP folder C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc .
When I first opened the file it only had one entry in it (along with some comments). The existing entry on both of my computers read:
127.0.0.1 localhost

In order to add entries for the two computers using Synergy, they each need a fixed IP address (not a new one assigned each time from the router via DHCP). So I assigned fixed addresses using the Dir-625 "Network Settings" menu inder the "Setup" tab at the top. The change is made under the "Add DCHP Reservation" header. Select your computer name to get the existing assigned DHCP address, then press the Save button to save it to the reservations list. Make sure if your router resets to factory settings, or if you change out the network card, to re-update the reservation and re-edit the "hosts" file in Windows.

So my two computers now have fixed addresses of 192.168.0.101 and 192.168.0.102. The computers are named ZEUS and MINERVA. I then added the following two entries to the "hosts" file on each computer (probably overkill, but I'm not spending the time to figure out which one really needs which entry):
192.168.0.101 ZEUS
192.168.0.102 MINERVA

Thats it. Now Synergy 1.3.1 connects instantly and mouse and keyboard are shared. Just like they were before I changed to the new router.
