I keep getting the message that there's a serious error and the program will be closed down. It happens with various programs. I quite frequently get the screen going black with a broken green or red line across the top of the screen. I know these are serious, what can I do? Does it mean I should reinstall Win98SE? If I do have to do that, do I uninstall the Win98 before reinstalling? Oh yes, I also get countless BSOD's. Sounds like a mess doesn't it!

Hey Nancy. How much Ram (memory) do you have in your PC? If you have two or more Sticks of ram in there, I would suggest to take one out and try your system. If that doesn't work, then Swap the two of them, leave the one you have already tried out. Then try again.... Just make sure you ground yourself to the case good before touching the Ram Sticks....

Nancy sorry for the delay in answering. With as many errors you are getting it means it is going to be hard to track down a single problem...
Lets try this. (If you dont have a warrenty on it)(If you do have a warrenty then this is the time to cash in on it) Take the cover off your PC and look at the Fans, Make sure they are Free of Dirt and Dust and they are Spinning correctly.
If they are free of dirt and working properly, then.
Look at the Ram stick. See if you have 1 or 2. They will look like this.

Thanks for your help, the graphic really helps. When I've finished a rather important project I'm working on - I shall tackle the problem. I don't want to do it before, in case I do my computer in!
By the way can anyone tell me how to change the video playback path from Quicktime to Media Player. Can't seem to see the option anywhere.

you mean set windows media player as ur default player ? (Like when u click on a video or music file it will launch the player u set to delfault)
If u mean that...
1.click on Quicktime
2. go to edit/preferences/quicktime preferences
3./click on the drop down window then go to
file type associations
4.uncheckmark everything except macintosh file type
5.exit everything then go to media player
(start/programs/accessories/entertainment)
6.go to view/options/player
7. checkmark "Allow Internet sites to uniquely identify your player"
8. And just incase go to Formats and click select all to associate media player to every media files like .avi and .mpg
IF YOU MEAN SOMETHING ELSE PLZ POST BACK !!!
