Bsod when fn key pressed

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a new Toshiba laptop, and have just today started getting blue screens of death if I press the fn key. It doesn't happen everytime (I have previous used fn+f5 to change the display output with no problems). It does happen if I try to press fn+f1 to lock the computer.

I have Vista Ultimate 32 bit, and I have the crash dump files.

The bsod tells me "IRQL not less or equal". I haven't seen any more details on that screen, as it resets the computer.

The error message I get with the dump files reads:

Windows

Shut down unexpectedly

I can't make any sense out of these files, and I can't find any solutions on the web. Can anyone help me?

Thanks.

Hi Jasiel, if you send me the below files, I may be able to help you identify what is causing your problem.

Mini013108-01.dmp
sysdata.xml

Copy them to a new folder, zip it up (this is important) and email it to me (include a link to this thread) and title your email "Minidump". My address is anniefriday@xtra.co.nz. I will post back when I have checked them out.

Two files were identified. LPCFilter.sys and cmdguard.sys. The first file is probably installed by your motherboard chipset driver (I think....I am not really a hardware person so you may need to post in our Hardware Forum for more info on this file). The second belongs to Comodo Firewall.

The debugging results did seem to indicate that the problem was most likely caused by LPCFilter.sys however if the problem only started after Comodo Firewall was installed, uninstall it.

You could also try updating or reinstalling your motherboard chipset driver. Let us know how you get on.

Ok and thanks for the quick reply.

I really don't know whether the problem was there before I installed Comodo, as I hadn't tried to use the fn key then.

I will try the LPCfilter side of it first and see how it goes.

Thanks again,
Jasiel.

I have tried both of the suggestions. I updated the chipset drivers, but I don't know if it did anything for the LPCFilter.sys and didn't seem to help at all.

I then uninstalled Comodo. So far, so good. It hasn't crashed whenever I've pressed the fn key.

Thanks for the help. It was much appreciated.
