Just today, my screen somehow adjusted. When I click to expand the screen to full size (the little box next to the X in the upper right) the top 1/2 inch or so is now off the screen. I can still hit the X button to close the screen simply because I know it is hidden up in the corner. My screen resolution hasn not changed. My youngest boy probably banged on the keyboard enough to "adjust" something....Help!!

I tried to do a system restore and an error message came on. "an unspecified error occurred during system restore" What is that!

I had the same problem when restoring my system. Not only that but the
backup that I did a few months before would not even work. There is an update
to rescue/restore on the Windows web site. I would download that update and make
sure it runs before trying to restore again.

Try running System Restore in Safe Mode pastorpete. To boot into Safe Mode, restart your computer and tap F8 continuously as it restarts. Any luck?

Is this on a stationary pc, or a laptop?

Restoring in safe mode still was not successful. It didn't restore to the previous point. It suggested to try another point. Did that, still no go. I did though fix my screen issue. My kids had somehow changed the refresh rate to a different hertz. Somehow, restore DID change the screen back to normal, but it still gave the error message that it didn't complete the task???? I am dumbfounded.:hmm:

Me too. What antivirus program do you have installed? Norton is known to cause problems with System Restore.

Trend Micro 2007, updated regularly.

I am not aware of any problems with Trend Micro. System Restore is not working anyway so try clearing all restore points in case some are corrupted and creating a new one. See here (http://vistasupport.mvps.org/turn_off_system_restore.htm) for more help.
Once you have created a new restore point, try System Restore and see if it works now.

Has System Restore ever worked on this machine?

Not sure. The first time I used it was just recently and it didn't work. I have had the computer for about 8 months. I guess I could contact the HP help line. I do have 1 year of service.

Well it would be a good idea to contact them. This may be a known bug with the OEM installation and they may have a hotfix for the problem. I searched the Microsoft site, there is nothing about that error there.
