Hi,
For some reason I can't access my router+modem homepage when my router is plugged in.

What doesn't work is that I can't access my router+modem homepage when they are connected to the computer.

When I unplug the modem from the router and straight into the computer I can access the modem page but obviously since the router is disconnected I can't access it.

Optusnet DSL Direct
ADSL or ADSL2 or ADSL2+ i think
Modem is Siemens SS4200
Router is Dlink DI-524
Multiple PCs networked
It is wireless
The OS I am using is Windows XP SP2

Sorry about this, I'm not good at networking, but what do you mean by time?
And how what do you mean by stand-alone?

Thanks for replying

Yes I can access the internet.

When are connected to the router what is your default gateway?
Default Gateway is 192.168.0.1
which is the address of the router.

Did you try 192.168.1.1 in your browser or 192.168.0.1 in your browser?
When you enter 192.168.0.1 in the browser what happens?

If I understand your setup correctly, when you connect to the router you are on subnet 192.168.0.x . Your modem is on subnet 192.168.1.x . Since they are different subnets it is not unexpected that when you connect to the router you are blocked from talking to the modem. You could try changing your D-Link router's LAN address to 192.168.1.2 and its DHCP range to 192.168.1.100-199. Then the router and modem will be on the same subnet and you can then, probably, access the modem while connected to the router.

don't do this... It will break your connection...

The subnet your router uses for its LAN side MUST be different than the subnet that is used by the modem which is connected to the WAN (internet) side of the router. If both sides of the router have the same subnet then the router cannot figure out where to route the traffic.

Can you try running "tracert 192.168.0.1" in a command window and post the output back here?
