I recently Upgraded my laptop to Vista Business. Over the last 3 days my computer just seems to crash for no reason. Last night it crashed 8 times while I was playing videos. I thought it might be MP 11 so I played on VLC. Same crashes happened. Its playing & from no where a blue screen (BSD) pops up. It doesn’t have any info just blue. It lasts about 2 -3 seconds then the whole system powers down abruptly. It then powers back up. The problem is sometime it fails 3-4 times before it successfully boots back up. Now today its crashed 5 times. I’m not running videos. Just a few Thunderbird Tabs Skype & Outlook. I’ve had Vista for over a month & this just started to happen. Once it successfully reboots I get a widow that says” System recovered from an unexpected shutdown” or something like that. It got the below info from that window.

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.6
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 1000008e
BCP1: C0000005
BCP2: 8187B7A9
BCP3: 8F1DCA24
BCP4: 00000000
OS Version: 6_0_6000
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 256_1

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini020508-14.dmp
C:\Users\john\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-59031-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\john\AppData\Local\Temp\WER6C9F.tmp.versi on.txt

I also opened the reliability Monitor the chart show a steady decline starting 1/18/08=searchprotocolhost.exe stopped working 1/26/08 OS Stopped working – failure 0x8187ba9,0x8ee2bad4. 1/26 another OS Stopped, 2/2 OS stopped.
IN 2/3 It had 4 OS stopped errors & a disruptive shutdown. 2/4 it had 3 OS Stopped working!!! My Reliability graph is falling faster that the stock market!!!
In Event viewer
2/5/ 4:49 warning: NtpClient was unable to set a domain peer to use as a time source because of discovery error. NtpClient will try again in 15 minutes and double the reattempt interval thereafter. The error was: The entry is not found. (0x800706E1)

2/5/ 4:46 Error: The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. This may be a transient condition. A success message would be generated once the machine gets connected to the domain controller and Group Policy has succesfully processed. If you do not see a success message for several hours, then contact your administrator.

There must be around 100 warnings/Error just today!!!!
Its even crashed twice since I’ve been on your site. Like it doesn’t want the problem to get fixed. Any help guys!?

Hi NYKrumrie. Those errors may just indicate loss of network connectivity which would be consistent with a forced shutdown.

If you send me the below files, I may be able to help you identify what is causing your problem.

Mini020508-14.dmp
sysdata.xml

Copy them to a new folder, zip it up (this is important) and email it to me (include a link to this thread) and title your email "Minidump". My address is anniefriday@xtra.co.nz. I will post back when I have checked them out.

AnnMarie I sent you the zipped file. The 1st time I emailed it to you via Gmail I got a message saying the email couldn't reach your email address. I sent it again from Outlook. So far I have not seen any returned undeliverable messages. I hope you got the file. I hope it was what you were looking for. Thanks a Million!

Hi NYKrumrie. I received the files. Uninstall Skype, reboot and see if this fixes the problem.

If not, I would suggest that you check your RAM. Vista has a utility that will do this but see how you go with uninstalling Skype first.

Really you think Skype might be the problem.?! I'll uninstall and see what happens. I order more RAM too. I kinda need to use SKYPE for work. Can I reinstall it or should I download it from a site you recommend. What would you recommend for someone who HAS to use SKYPE? If this works you will be a life saver. These crashes are driving me crazy! Thanks a Million!

Yes there is a strong possibility. We will know for certain once you have uninstalled it.

Can I reinstall it

You can try. Why dont we wait and see if it is the culprit?

or should I download it from a site you recommend. What would you recommend for someone who HAS to use SKYPE?

I dont use this software at all NYKrumrie so I really wouldnt know. I suggest that you ask for recommendations in the Applications Forum if it does prove to be the cause of your problems.

Hi AnnMarie!
I tried to uninstall Skype & it wouldn't let me!! So I tried from SAFE Mode still wouldn't let me. Now I get error windows when I boot up.

It says they couldn't Run/ load these two files
C:\user\name\AppData\Local\Temp\dshmyjee.dll
C:\user\name\AppData\Local\Temp\jkhhf.dll

Now My Explorer has Disappeared!!!
I posted a tread about it too.
Thanks so much for all you help!

I dont believe the two issues are related NYKrumrie. The below files are Vundo, a particularly nasty form of malware:

C:\user\name\AppData\Local\Temp\dshmyjee.dll
C:\user\name\AppData\Local\Temp\jkhhf.dll

It sounds to me as if your antivirus program has scanned and removed the files. I'll look at your other thread.

If they are malware & the AV took them out, why am I getting an error window like the system is looking for those files. Are the error windows just a mistake. If so how can I stop them from popping up? You are the best! Thanks for being so helpful to me. All these problems are on my biz computer so this is very bad. Thanks a million!

Because the registry entries are still present. Let's continue the malware discussion in your other topic.
