I have tried searching and looking everywhere, but i cant find the fix to this problem.

I have 2 computers, both running Windows XP Pro, same workgroup, and they can access each others shared folders.

But heres the problem Computer A can copy something from Computer B alot faster. Computer B can copy stuff from Computer A too, but it will take like 10 times longer.

So in short: (copying the same size file)
Computer A copy from Computer B = Fast (5min)
Computer B copy from Computer A = Very Slow (50+min)

Both computers are connected to the same router with eternet cables.
Both can access internet at fast speeds (cable)

I have tried fiddling around, but still no luck. If anyone know how to fix this problem, please help me out.

Interesting problem, but may be tough to track down.

To start with what are you running for anti-virus software on each PC?
Are the machine similar in hardware? Older systems will usually write slower to disk than newer ones?

These may be part of the cause, but it doesn't seem that it would account for such a difference.

How deep are you willing to dig for this? My next step would be to run wireshark on the slower machine during the transfer and examine the network traffic. Don't know if you are up to doing that. I can help with the analysis part.

Hi thanks for the reply

Both computers run Avast for the anti virus at the same settings.

Yes 1 computer is 5 years and the other is around 2 years.

Heres the exact problem:
Older copy from Newer = fast
Newer copy from Older = slow

So i'm guessing theres something in the older system that is slowing down the access to the computer.
I built both computers myself, and i'm pretty sure its not the hardware. Both computers can download and upload at really good speeds, so it cant be the ethernet card. All the harddrives are at the same speeds.

sorry Dragoon, I'm at a loss as to what to do except capture the network packets with wireshark and see if it shows anything.

Have you checked the event viewer on the machines to see if shows anything?
