Deleting Windows Media Player

Have huge problems with pc it will burn cds and dvds but will not open any , Backed up all my music and files and did a complete system restore. Still cannot open any discs either music or dvds it also shows folders but does not open or show contents. Someone said possibly bad lens on dvd burner so went out and bought new dvd burner at comp usa. Installled it and still doing same thing. Also changed cable. Compaq says to uninstall media player and re-install but having problems with vista. Someone please help. Have Vista home basics that came with computer Thanks

Hi JaneDoe999. Have you ever been able to burn CD's or DVD's on this computer? If not, you should continue to work with Compaq as it will be their responsibility to put it right. However you might like to tell them that Windows Media Player is part of the Vista installation and it cannot be uninstalled.
