I'm trying to tidy up some unwanted files in Vista (home premium)
Specifically there are a whole bunch of sample pictures that I don't need, won't ever need. However, it won't let me delete them despite going through the routine of changing permissions. It looks like they are regarded as System files and won't allow me to change the permissions.

How do dlete them?

Hello, Mike - not sure exactly what your problem might be, but the UAC (user account control) options in VISTA can be a pain in requesting your permssion to complete certain actions or in prohibiting them! Take a look at this MS Discussion (http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsVista/en/library/0d75f774-8514-4c9e-ac08-4c21f5c6c2d91033.mspx?mfr=true) on UAC for a better understanding & possibly a solution - good luck!

Hi,

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that there's no easy fix for this and that it's one of the anoying features of Vista that people constantly complain about.

From what I can tell the problem lies with the Permissions that stop me having access to change them. Despite me being the "administrator" and only account on the PC it absolutely won't let me change or remove the read only attributes. Therefore, I can't delete.

The MS handbook for Vista is no help either and refers to what was previously admistrator groop files now being owned by TrustedInstaller. So unless I'm missing something here I have no way of deleting these unwanted files on My Own PC!

All I can say is it's a good job I have the option of removing Vista and putting XP which I may well eventually do.

Sorry to tel you this but you maybe screwed! From what I have been told there are certain files on Vista which are IMPOSIBLE to delete by people like us. Unless of course you some authorisation or access from MS which I'm sure they won't give. So if toy file falls into that catorgary you are stuck with them!
