I have been trying to install flash player on my Acer laptop running Vista Home Premium 32 bit but when I go to the Adobe site it gets to the final download screen and just hangs. I have spoken to the people from the help desk of the company who produces application I am trying to run, which requires the flash player, but they were not able to find a solution.

Hi thaitrader. Try this. Close IE and open Computer. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32 and look for the Macromed folder. Open it and then open the Flash Folder. Find FlashUtil9b and rightclick on it and choose "Run as Administrator". When the UAC prompt appears, select Continue and follow the prompts. Reboot afterwards. Did this work?

Hi AnnMarie

You solution solved the flash installation issue but the application still won't run. After following your instructions I opened one of the SWF files in the application's SWF folder and I can view the files which I believe means flash is correctly installed, but when I try to run the exe file the hourglass shows beside the cursor for a few seconds then nothing more happens.

Thanks again for your help.
Kindest Regards

Try rightclicking on the executable and choosing "Run as Administrator".

I have tried that, makes no difference. Originally I tried to run the application on a XP system with MS Office 2007 but it could not find a DLL file. When I contacted the help desk they told me it would not run with Office 2007, I needed to downgrade to 2003. I downgraded but in the meantime my new Acer laptop crashed and I had to return it to Acer customer service. They rebuilt it and installed Vista. Now I have the same symptoms I had with Office 2007 installed.

Have you tried running it in XP Compatibility Mode (rightclick on the file and choose Properties. Click on the Compatibility Tab and choose your OS)? If so and still no luck, I think you should talk to the developers again.

Yes, I have tried the run in XP compatibility mode but it does not make any difference. I have also spoken to the developers and they say they do not have the resources to update the application until later in the year.

Thank AnnMarie, once again you have been a great help.
