Here recently my laptop has been over heating really easily.
I bought one of those fans for it, but it just broke not to long after I had it so I just took it back and forgot about that.
What would be causing my computer to overheat so easily?
Is thier anything I can do to fix it?

if its not crashing or shutting down or restarting spontaneously the laptop should be ok

can you give us some temperatures?
temperatures can be retrieved from BIOS
or using speedfan which can be downloaded for free here
http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

laptop cpu temp on idle in warm weather should probably not pass 50C
on max load it shouldn't pass 70
thats on my laptops anyways
one temp shot up to 90+ once on a very hot day, i didnt have the cooler pad on and a pack of tissues was accidentally blocking the intake...

like I will feel it getting really hot.
and then all of a sudden it will shut down and I wont be able to turn it back on until it cools down alot.
and i will tell you some temperatures as soon as i get that downloaded
but the only way i can really keep my laptop from overheating is to sit it on the edge of my table.
but still it gets kind of hot.

that is quite hot
make sure all the air vents are not blocked, use a clean paint brush and a can of compressed air to get rid of as much dust as you can from the vents

are the fans running?

if nothing is blocking the vents, its dust free and the fans are running, it could be that the thermal paste has dried up and/or there is lots of dust inside the laptop, which means you have to open it up

can you give us your laptop specs?
also when you check the temps is the CPU running at 100% or idle?

What is the brand name and model number of this laptop? That info is what chingy is looking for so he can search for the real specs.

from what i can find on google these are your specs
Intel Celeron® M 520 1.6GHz
512MB RAM (2GB Max)
80GB (5400 RPM) HDD
DVD+/-RW Double Layer Drive
15.4” TruBrite™ WXGA
Atheros WLAN 802.11b/g
Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Basic

now when you take the temperature, press ctrl+alt+del and click start task manager then click performance then give us the CPU usage as well as the temperature from speed fan

if it is idle at 72C thats way to hot, you also said it shuts down by itself

I suggest calling up toshiba, and getting it replaced (if under warranty)

plus i have anitbher question that I would like answered if you could help me.

Im tryin g to share media from my computer to my xbox 360, but it says the firewall is making it where i cant do that. How can i change that? Ive tried going through the settings but nothing seems to fix it.
Like my 360 will recognize my computer but it cant share anything because of the firewall.
