I'm still trying to find ways to install XP pro on new barebones kit with old hard drive if possible. Can I use old h-drive with new legal version of XP pro?
My current XP disk is OEM. I'm told that's not legal or even possible?:hmm:

I've heard differing opinions on simply installing old hard drive on new barebones system with current OS and files intact which I'd prefer to do if possible. Can this be done? Thanks.

If the original old harddrive doesn't an OEM xp on it, as in a branded system like Dell, HP/Compaq, Gateway or other, you can't use it, you can't even do the repair install that someone was talking about. And it's illegal to use that drive that way in a new system.
If you XP install is not branded or not an OEM system, then you can use it by doing a repair install.....sometimes this works, sometimes you just need to reinstall XP for it to work with the new system.
