Finally learning the lessons from VHS Vs Betamax, Walk/Discman Vs Mp3/iPod Sony looks to have won the Blu-Ray Vs HD-DVD battle.
All those XBox360 owners will now be glad M$ made the HD-DVD player an add-on so they can get a Blu-ray player when it becomes available.
PS3 sales will now start to ramp up.

According to Google News, Toshiba claims their still pulling out the stops.
I think its time that Toshiba should dominant something.
Toshiba & SONY are already head-to-head in the TV field (my opinion only).
BluRay is a catchy name, however, SONY has dominanted a few markets already.
In my last thread, I said:
"TOSHIBA HD-DVD or SONY BLU-RAY. Well apparently BluRay wins and HD-DVD obsolete. That figures industry wants the consumer to buy something more expensive. However Toshiba claims their still pulling out the stops. I don't know HD-DVD sounds standard, but than BluRay has a catchy name to it. Good thing I stuck with regular DVD. I really hated that this war began in the first place. This movie company choose that format, that movie company choose this format. Just put it on BOTH formats, its that simple.
XBOX doesn't really want to respond on that, after all SONY PlayStation is their arch rival."

Just out of interest I believe Blueray has now won the war and HD DVDs are to be dropped from manufacture.http://ukpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5iF8ECgpJW5gAUbp42JkWJqXu6MFg

Chris said there were some other format wars that I didn't even hear about, like DivX war and the plus and minus war with CD blanks.

There was also the Beta vs VHS format which the market decided and there were two standards for HD TV that the Feds got to decide.
Anytime there are profits to be made, there is a good chance there will be more than one company trying to earn them. It's nice when the consumer gets to decide...as in the case of VHS.
Apparently the Feds stepped in on HD TV on the basis of being the ones who have the responsibility of managing the publically-owned airwaves. I suppose the other choice would have been for the broadcasters to get together and decide which HD format to use but then the companies marketing their own HD format could have accused the broadcasters of collusion.

Yeah I already heard about the Beta vs VHS, the media has been saying that a million times. Global News doesn't have a technology segment, but they did talk about the HD-DVD, Blu-Ray War and Beta, VHS War. They just didn't mention the other media format wars, like DivX, not the software or codec as most people know, but the Hardware called DivX. There was a war between DVD and DivX, whats funny is that DivX would self-destruct.
I was rooting for HD-DVD.
Although some studios still use HQ VHS and/or Beta. Can't blame them, CD's and all other formats that look like CD's can get damaged easy. Just as an example, MuchMusic uses Beta and CBC uses HQ VHS.
