Well, I would suggest a little more information, e.g. what Windows OS & version of Word are you running? Did Word run fine before, and if so, any changes made to your software/hardware that might have created a problem?

Might want to check the 'Event Viewer' in the Windows Management console to see if there is an entry when Word 'freezes up' - do you get any 'error messages'? Just a start - hope others can help - good luck!

A lot of Word problems are due to a corrupt normal.dot...the file that creates that blank document you see when Word is opened. All you have to do is find that file and delete it.

It's a hidden file so first open My Computer, go to Tools>Folder Options>View tab. Uncheck "Hide extensions of known files types" and "Hide protected operating system files" (OK the warning message) and check "Show hidden files and folders." Click OK.

Then go to Start>Find>All files and folders and tell it to look for "normal.dot" (without the quotes). Note that's ".dot," not ".doc." If it doesn't find one, in the left-hand pane of the search window go to advanced preferences and check the boxes to tell it to look in subfolders and in hidden files and folders. Then run the search again.

Right click on the normal.dot it finds, left click Delete. See if Word will then open (it will create a new normal.dot file).
