microsoft office 97 problems

I work on winXP with microsoft Office 97
When opening new Word page I receive an error message saying
Word cannot open the existing “║
After clicking OK it the program works fine, but when closing it announces changes in Global template
Do the both problems connect, and how to get rid of them

Hi idr, as you are probably aware, Office97 is not supported under Windows XP.
The issue will probably be the location of your "normal.dot" template.
In later versions, it's stored in:
%:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

In 97 it's %:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates
Try following the instructions here from Microsoft Knowledge Base (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/167284) to manually change the template location.
