Backup software.

Hi,

I want to backup certain files and folders on my laptop to a network drive located on another computer. All computers are connected via a home wireless network. Currently I copy the contents I want to backup and paste them to a folder on the network drive. This is tedious and hard to remember. Is there any software I can buy or is recommended that would do this for me. I looked at Windows XP and the synchronization option and I cannot figure that one out.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

I should have looked closer in the search area, sorry about that. I see the Goodsync has been mentioned, does is fair well for anyone who currently uses it? I was going to look for one to buy but I may hold off.

Thanks

I use GoodSync, and it does a good job. A nice feature is that it analyzes both "From" and "To" locations so you know exactly what is being moved where. I do not use mine on a network drive, but I don,t see why it would not work as long as you see the whole tree at both locations.

There is a free version that limits you to number and size of transferred files, otherwise fully functional. I wasn't even aware of the paid version till I tried syncing a partition. Paid version is cheap. Worth trying.

Great thanks for the advice. I'll try the Goodsync. I did see the SyncToy but I don't have the Net framework installed. I'm not sure about this installation and any conflicts possible. Basically I just don't know enough about it.

If those suggestions do not satisfy you, then another option is Second Copy - free trial download (and relatively inexpensive); I've used the program for a number of years now, both at home & in my office to automate 'backing up' folders to external hard drives, but states that the program works w/ networked drives - good luck!

You won't have any problems with .NET Framework. Lots of programs use it so you should have it installed anyway.
