Hi.
I recently fully formatted my computer and have been experiencing some trouble with Windows Media Player, when I try to play any kind of video file it comes up with the error message:
"Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help."

After clicking web help, I am sent to this address.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/webhelp/default.aspx?&mpver=11.0.5721.5145&id=C00D11B1&contextid=83&originalid=80004005
I have done and checked all of these things and it hasn't worked.

P.S. The video files work fine in Quicktime and other such programs.

Have you tried upgrading media player to the latest version.
You could also try installing the xvid codec.

Yes, I've downloaded wmp11.
And I've tried several codecs, including xvid.

I realise now that it will only not play mpg's.
Any suggestions?
Lol.

And I've tried several codecs, including xvid. Which several have you tried? And what operating system are you using? If XP, it could be WMP 11 does not play well with XP. It was created for Vista.

Try the k-lite codec pack:
