napster to add filter

napster is trying to add a filter to keep any one from downloading copyrighted songs
this is a last ditch effort to keep napster alive.

I still haven't gone to check out the alternatives....keep telling myself to - do you folks think they'll end up going the same way?

Harrie, I would say that any of them that have servers like Napster, will eventually go that way. There are ones out there that cannot be traced, so there's more chance of them getting away with it.

w00t...
i mean what can i say its about time stealing on the internet was not accepted =)
come on folks how many people you know are going to spend serveral hours downloading a file that they say already 'own' the cd for.
my mommy and daddy told me "if you can't afford it then you must not need it"
i totally am against warez of any kind.
napster might not have control over what music is sent back and forth but this is a good move towards them redeeming themselfs.
my only thing i disagree with napster about was them not even trying to stop people from trading warez... long time ago i logged on to napster and found out that its like irc with channels named "WAREZ PUPPY" i mean come on you mean they can't write a program to search the names ? bah!

Down with Napster
Down with METalicka (not even knowing that the users should be arrested not napster)
Down with Warez and Script Pups =)
think i made my peace
and god bless you and the donkey ya rode in on.

Can't see how such a filter would work. I hear it has a database of 1million copyright songs, so you just change the name of the song file subtly and you're back in business, right?

NB: That's the techie argument not the moral one

Guru_God, beleive it or not some of us do already own the songs we are downloading.

I've donwloaded less than 10 songs from Napster and I have every one of those songs on my collection of RECORD ALBUMS. It's easier for me to download the songs and put them on a CD than it is to try to connect to my turntable on the other side of the room.

If Napster folds it's no big deal to me. I'll just buy the patch cables for my turntable and dig out the records.

Napster shouldnt be shut down. Its like one of those legal loopholes that manufacturers use to make and sell radar scramblers or TV descramblers, Napster cannot be held accountable because they really arent doing anything illegal, just setting up a system in which illegal things "could" happen. I really would like the authorities try to arrest the millions of people using napster
Anyway, if napster is shutdown who cares? just go download one of the decentralized alternatives (keyword: decentralized) such as Gnuettela, limewire or imesh, they can never be shutdown since no one owns them and are free source apps.

I'm with mod on this one.

I've recorded about 250(50%) of my LP-vinyls, as I found about Napster. I can d/l all songs in just better quality, than I can record them myself. I can't see an issue with copyright problems there. And I've still more than 200 albums to go for, all old stuff from the past 35 years
