First off, hello everyone. :) I registered some time ago for a simple question about a network issue, and received response immediately. For that, I thank you all. I never introduced myself, either. My name is Steven, and I am glad to be a part of this community.

On to the problem at hand. I recently completed the most powerful build I have ever made. The hardware is as follows:

Gigabyte M61SME motherboard
AMD Athlon X2 4800+
XFX nVidea 8600GT Graphics Card
2GB 667 DDR2 Memory
160GB WD SATA Hard Drive

Leaving out the extra, fun stuff, like cathode tubes. ;) (No build is complete without. :))

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate, 32-bit, and all is well. I am experiencing an issue downloading the cumulative update for IE7, so if you have any information about that, let me know. (I am currently trading e-mails with a highly unhelpful Microsoft support member).

The only programs I have installed are Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.12 and The Orange Box. Here is where the problem started. Everything was smooth (all my games play PERFECT, had them maxed) until I installed Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End computer game. I immediately experienced slow login times (normally 20-30 seconds) to around a minute or so. I then tried DreamScene. The second I click a video to play (the videos provided from Microsoft, not my own which limits the possibility of codec issues) my monitor goes black and then says there is no input. My video card fails. Then the system crashes to where I have to press the case reset button. My background (upon reboot) is black until I "Personalize."

What is going on? This is a top of the line system, and all was well until I installed the Pirates game. DreamScene seems to be the only thing affected by the installation. I do not want to uninstall it (hehe, I've gotten far) but want to resolve this. Thanks!

Steven

Are you using these Drivers (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_169.25_whql.html)???? Also have the latest version of Directx?? VERSION 10??

Start type dxdiag.exe in the search box and click on dcdiag.exe in the search results.

I do have DirectX 10. I am using the drivers from the CD-ROM that came with the card, and it had no problems before the installation of the said game. If these drivers do not work then I will uninstall the game and see if that is the problem. Thank you for your help.

Steven

EDIT: I installed the drivers above, but DreamScene still causes a system freeze. I then uninstalled the said game, but to no avail. Can anyone help, or shall I go through the brain damage of going to Microsoft?
